THE FIRST SARS-CoV-2 GENOME IN THE MACEDONIA SEQUENCED (15.06.2021)

The team at the Laboratory of Genetics and Personalized Medicine was the first laboratory to sequence the complete genomes of the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2, isolated from Macedonian patients at the beginning of June 2020. Through a third-generation real-time sequencing approach the team of molecular biologists completely decoded all 30,000 letters of the virus’s genetic material in 10 Macedonian patients.

THE UK COVID-19 VARIANT STRAIN IN MACEDONIA (28.01.2021)

The Laboratory of Genetics and Personalized Medicine found the presence of the mutated so-called UK Covid-19 variant strain. The mutation was determined by RNA sequencing according to the recommendations. As part of the scientific research work, a fast PCR protocol has been developed according to which suspicious candidates have been selected for the British VOC 202012/01 strain in Macedonia. After the selection is made, the presence or absence is confirmed through a new generation of real-time sequencing.
