What is a 24-hour pH-metry with an impedance?

It is a reflux study, that is, a diagnostic test to determine whether you or your child have a gastro-esophageal reflux disease (GERD). GERD is a condition in which the content of the stomach, acidic or non-acidic content, moves up into the esophagus. The esophagus is a muscular hollow tube through which food passes from the mouth to your stomach. A severe reflux can damage the inner lining of the esophagus and it can cause symptoms such as acid, regurgitation, chest pain, swallowing difficulties, hoarseness, cough, and asthma, and it may cause long-term health consequences. This study will count the number of reflux episodes, and it will register whether the refluxes are acidic, poorly acidic or non-acidic. The study will also correlate your symptoms with episodes of reflux and it will give you other necessary data. These measurements will be used to determine the best treatment plan for you/your child.
