General and Abdominal Surgery

Surgical treatment of diseases affecting the abdominal organs and other conditions that require an operative approach.

Department Overview

The Department of General and Abdominal Surgery provides surgical treatment of diseases affecting the abdominal organs and other conditions that require an operative approach.

Abdominal surgery, also known as digestive surgery, includes a wide range of procedures involving the stomach, intestines, liver, bile ducts, pancreas, and other abdominal organs.

The department cares for both patients with planned surgical conditions and patients with emergency conditions that require prompt intervention.

The department provides evaluation, surgical treatment, and postoperative care in collaboration with other specialties.

Diagnostics and Treatments

The department uses both basic and advanced methods to assess the condition, establish an accurate diagnosis, and plan surgical treatment. Every patient is evaluated individually in order to select the most appropriate and safest approach.

A basic surgical examination that includes a detailed medical history, assessment of symptoms, and palpation of the abdomen. The examination assesses the presence of pain, tension, tenderness, swelling, hernias, or other changes that may indicate a condition requiring surgical treatment.

Assessment of inflammatory markers, complete blood count, liver, kidney, and pancreatic function, coagulation, electrolytes, and the presence of infection. These analyses are important for diagnosis, preparation for surgery, and monitoring after the procedure.

A rapid and accessible method for evaluation of the gallbladder, liver, bile ducts, spleen, kidneys, and the presence of free fluid or inflammatory changes. It is often the first step in diagnosing acute abdominal pain.

Detailed visualization of abdominal organs and structures, especially in acute conditions, tumors, inflammation, bleeding, trauma, or complications. CT is also used for precise planning of surgical procedures.

An additional method for detailed assessment of soft tissues, liver, pancreas, bile ducts, and other organs. It is particularly useful in complex cases, tumors, and conditions requiring more detailed analysis.

When necessary, in collaboration with gastroenterologists and other specialties, gastroscopy, colonoscopy, and additional imaging methods are used to confirm the diagnosis and determine the appropriate treatment.

Detailed assessment of the patient’s overall condition, anesthesiology evaluation, optimization of chronic diseases, and preparation for safe performance of the surgical intervention.

The department performs planned and emergency surgical procedures, including operations on the gallbladder, hernias, appendicitis, intestinal diseases, tumors, and other abdominal conditions. Depending on the condition, interventions may be performed using either a conventional or minimally invasive approach.

After surgery, patients are followed through regular clinical examinations, laboratory analyses, and pain control, in order to ensure timely detection and prevention of complications and support faster recovery.

Technology and Equipment

Surgical procedures are performed in modern operating theatres, supported by advanced diagnostic and monitoring equipment.

  • Modern operating theatres
equipped for various types of surgical procedures, with the highest standards of sterility, safety, and continuous patient monitoring.
  • Laparoscopic surgical equipment
modern systems for minimally invasive procedures, enabling smaller incisions, less pain, shorter hospital stay, and faster recovery.
  • CT and MRI diagnostics
advanced systems for detailed visualization of organs and precise planning of surgical treatment.
  • Ultrasound systems
rapid and accurate assessment of abdominal organs and monitoring before and after intervention.
  • Laboratory support
fast and accurate analyses required for diagnosis, preparation for surgery, and monitoring during the postoperative period.
  • Monitoring systems
continuous monitoring of vital signs during and after surgery, ensuring maximum patient safety.
