Department Overview

The Department of Gynecology provides modern prevention, early diagnosis, and treatment of gynecological conditions through both conservative and surgical approaches.

The department monitors women’s health throughout all stages of life – from adolescence, through the reproductive years, and into menopause. Particular emphasis is placed on preventive gynecological examinations, early detection of precancerous and cancerous changes, treatment of benign and malignant diseases, and minimally invasive surgical procedures.

The gynecology team works through a multidisciplinary approach and in close collaboration with Radiology, Pathology, Oncology, Urology, and the Mother & Baby Center, ensuring that every patient receives individualized and safe treatment.

Diseases and Conditions

The department diagnoses and treats:

  • Benign diseases of the vulva, vagina, cervix, uterus, and ovaries – cysts, polyps, fibroids, and inflammatory conditions
  • Malignant and precancerous changes of the cervix, endometrium, ovaries, and vulva
  • Endometriosis and adenomyosis – conditions that cause chronic pain, heavy bleeding, and fertility problems
  • Irregular and abnormal uterine bleeding
  • Urgent gynecological conditions, including ovarian cyst torsion, acute pain, and bleeding
  • Ectopic pregnancy
  • Urogynecological conditions – urinary incontinence, uterine prolapse, and bladder prolapse
  • Infections and sexually transmitted diseases
  • Hormonal disorders, polycystic ovary syndrome, and menopausal symptoms
  • Fertility problems and pre-pregnancy assessment

Diagnostics and Treatments

The department uses modern diagnostic methods and both surgical and non-surgical treatments:

Gynecological examination and ultrasound

Basic assessment of the reproductive organs using transabdominal and transvaginal approaches.

4D ultrasound

Detailed visualization of the uterus, ovaries, and any abnormalities or masses.

Colposcopy

Magnified examination of the cervix for the detection of precancerous and cancerous changes.

Pap test and HPV typing

Screening for early detection of cervical changes and the presence of high-risk HPV types.

Genital microbiological swabs

Diagnosis of bacterial, viral, and fungal infections.

Hysterosalpingography (HSG)

An X-ray method used to assess the patency of the fallopian tubes and the condition of the uterus, particularly in patients with fertility problems.

Diagnostic and operative hysteroscopy

A minimally invasive procedure for examination and treatment of the inside of the uterus, including removal of polyps, fibroids, and uterine septa.

Diagnostic and operative laparoscopy

A minimally invasive surgical method used for the diagnosis and treatment of cysts, endometriosis, fibroids, and ectopic pregnancy.

Curettage and biopsy of the cervix and endometrium

Collection of tissue samples for histopathological analysis.

Conization (cold knife and LEEP)

Treatment of precancerous changes of the cervix.

Myomectomy

Surgical removal of fibroids while preserving the uterus.

Hysterectomy

Surgical removal of the uterus when medically necessary.

Adnexectomy

Removal of the ovary and/or fallopian tube in certain conditions.

Treatment of ectopic pregnancy

Conservative or surgical, depending on the patient’s condition.

Urogynecological surgery and prolapse treatment

Reconstructive procedures to improve function and quality of life.

Contraception and reproductive health counseling

Selection of appropriate contraception, insertion and removal of intrauterine devices (IUDs), and pregnancy planning.

Pregnancy termination

Medical or surgical, in accordance with medical indications and legal regulations.
